Dancing Queen
When you decide to paint ABBA, you know you’re stepping into something massive. And this piece literally is. it’s the largest canvas in the entire collection.
The inspiration came from two moments: their Eurovision victory with “Waterloo” in 1974, and the release of “Dancing Queen” two years later. Two songs that became global phenomena. The energy behind that is almost impossible to contain.
I thought it would take me around 12 hours. It took me 85.
Not because something went wrong, but because every layer I added opened up a new possibility. The colors demanded more colors. The shadows demanded more shadows. Every time I thought I was finishing, I found something that pulled me back into the canvas. That’s how this piece grew, not according to a plan, but according to its own rhythm.
The result is a piece that tries to capture something of the Swedish landscapes they come from, that openness, that light, that air. As if Sweden itself could fit inside a painting.
